Ingredient Story: Star Anise

What is Star Anise?

Star Anise is an evergreen tree native to Vietnam and China. Most of us are familiar with its use as a spice used in cooking or in more perfumery, soaps, mouthwashes and skin creams. **It's important to note that some strains of Star Anise are toxic and not used for consumption, such as the Japanese and USA due modifications.**

Why is Star Anise good for Our Skin?

Described as a sweet licorice smell, it has been a staple in Chinese and Indian cuisine for many years. Star anise is naturally rich in antioxidants, vitamins A and C. It is a powerful ingredient as it can aid in digestion and actually alleviate cramps and reduce nausea.

The oil produced from star anise contains thymol, terpineol and anethole which is used for treating cough and flu. Star anise contains anethole which is quite effective in detoxifying the skin, this ingredient contains many medicinal compounds.
