Ingredient Story: Chia Seed

Chia seed have a long history and are grown in Mexico and South America many historians belief seeds were used by Mayan and Aztec cultures for supernatural powers. Earliest mentioned of production was in 16th century.

Chia seed was used for food, medicine, ground floor, drinks and pressed oil. In addition it was used as a sacrifice in religious ceremonies.

The word Chia means “strength”

The seeds are hydrophilic absorbing up to 12 times their weight in liquid which develops a distinctive gel texture. Chia seeds contains omega-3 fatty acids that help aid healing process irritated skin, blemished and protect the outer layer of skin from bacteria.

  • Polyunsaturated fat, as Omega-3 fatty acids
  • Protein
  • Calcium
  • Zinc
  • Fiber
